EARLY CLASSIC RESTO

The ball joint dust boots

5.
Don't forget the ball joint dust boots. These things not only keep out dirt and crap they keep the grease where it belongs.

6.
After installing fresh bushings here, as well, the upper control arms are the next components to be installed.

ECE big-block dropped coil springs

7.    Next on the agenda is a set of new ECE big-block dropped coil springs. Place the spring top into the upper spring pocket of the frame rail and using your floor jack, begin to lift the lower control arm into place. Rotate the spring until the bottom coil fits correctly into the pocket of the lower control arm and proceed to raise the lower control arm until the spring is in place and beginning to compress. (Early Classic's front drop springs are available in either a 1" or 2" drop and are manufactured with the correct rates so they'll not only drop the truck, but also allow you to still carry a load).

8.   Along with the springs, a pair of ECE, 2½-inch drop, disc-brake spindles are installed, as well.

Torque both the upper and lower castle nuts

9.   Slide the new spindle over the lower ball joint and spin the ball joint castle nut on hand tight. Then, lift the upper control arm and slide the upper ball joint shaft through the top spindle mounting-hole and start the upper nut.  Once the spindle is in place, torque both the upper and lower castle nuts to manufacturer specs, insert the cotter pins in both, and lower the floor jack. At this point the spindle will hold the coil spring in place and you can proceed to do the same on the other side.
